AGM & Trophy Presentations

Always a great time for EYAV members to get together and plan the coming year's activities, we had our meeting at HBYC enjoying their new catering facilities, and as always, the splendid views. The E24 Trophies were shared between the Secretary/ Treasurer Mark Sheahan, President Frank Rendell and Vice President Ken Scoble. The E26 trophy was won by defending champion Ian Robinson with new member, Gary Cook runner up, photo page 2.
We have been invited to attend a Race Start and Mark Rounding training day at HBYC. Check out the info on page 3. This is a great opportunity with Endeavour experienced skippers and crew to assist you, or you may like to crew on one of the participating yachts.
We would like to welcome new members and some
New Endeavours to EYAV
Guido Fobert E24 EROICA,
Robert Rutter E24 KARINA
Gary Cook E26 ONEDIN

We look forward to seeing these yachts in action and wish them safe and happy sailing.
Robert has brought Karina from Lakes Entrance to
Hobsons Bay to join the action on Port Phillip. Bob
has done a marvellous job preparing Karina, from her
snappy trailer, spray dodger, outboard lift crane plus
many more innovations, this yacht is full of ideas.

Bob Rutter with his pretty E24 Mk1 Karina packed with very useable features.

Endeavours are still competitive

This last racing season saw us racing with yachts from HBYC and RYCV (President's Report page 2).
Some of these yachts are 50 foot plus, with slick crew and great reputation for Offshore sailing.
Now we Endeavour skippers are pretty biased, and think our yachts are darn good. Interesting to observe with over 100 yachts racing in a 9 race series, we were sometimes giving half the fleet a start, Cathmarine & Puff both achieved second places, Sprite and Venus got 2 third places. Not bad for 3 E24s and 1 E26 and we finished a few times in the top ten.

Details for race entry are available from:

President's Report

We had an interesting and challenging year for the EYAV and members.

  • More Endeavour yachts have joined HBYC including E24's & E26's, we welcome them aboard
    .
  • To protect EYAV and our members from increasing insurance costs and provide efficient race officials, we now run our race series as HBYC events and work under their rules & procedures. This past racing year has seen this system work extremely well and will be continued for the coming year.
  • New owners are participating in race events with good success. Endeavour yachts have a sound reputation for performance and safety in club events and this is strengthened whenever we compete.
  • We have planned an interesting Calendar for 2005/ 2006. Racing may not be your major interest, however, a side benefit of competing with other yachts of the same class encourages skippers & crew to prepare their yachts to perform at their best, and your skills in handling your yacht improve enormously.

Aims for 2005-2006 - Getting Fun From Your Endeavours

  • Check page 3 HBYC race training. The committee will be on hand as experienced Endeavour sailors and will share their information and skills they have acquired sailing Victorian waters to make your sailing safer and more successful. For those with an interest in gaining experience in racing, articles, workshops and on water sailing with successful skippers will be available.
  • We look forward to receiving your feedback to ensure we are doing our utmost to help you get fun with your Endeavour.

I would like to thank the 2004-2005 EYAV committee and the members for their support and assistance and wish you all safe and happy sailing.

Frank Rendell, EYAV President.

Ian & Gary at the trophy table where Ian wins the Championship for 2005. Gary taking second place.

After an extensive refit, new owner of ByJingies, Keith Payne, has beautifully prepared his yacht inside and out. Ready for the coming season, Keith is looking forward to sunny skies and a nice sea breeze.

Endeavour 26 Activity

The E26 fleet has been hard at work getting the yachts shipshape for summer sailing. We expect to see a very competitive year in 2006 with these yachts looking so smart and ready for action.

We are hopeful we can get E26's from the other clubs to join in our events.

We have 18 E26's in the EYAV, some are undergoing extensive refurbishment and will not be ready for a while, but others are just growing barnacles.

Come join the Fun

Ian aboard Venus checks out the opposition between races. Ian is always keen and prepares well ahead.

Gary has done a lot of work on Onedin. Now back in the water, Onedin has been a regular racer and finishing closer to the front every race. Watch out!

ON THE TECHNICAL SIDE

with Frank Rendell

Hobson's Bay Yacht Club Sailing Committee invite you to the

Start and Mark Rounding Practice Day
Sunday 2nd October - 10.00 am

The purpose of the day is to cover the essentials of race starts to increase skippers and crews awareness of race starting and mark rounding procedures.
This day is primarily targeted at novice level race skippers and crew, aiming to increase participation in races by HBYC & EYAV yachts.
Interested parties with more experience are welcome to attend, as a refresher.
Both boat and pursuit starts will be discussed.
There will be a short theory session followed by on the water practice of starts and mark rounding.

Everyone is welcome, the emphasis being for beginners.

The formalities will conclude back in the clubrooms, hopefully with video footage of the day.

To assist planning register your interest by sending an e-mail to
