To those who missed our last meeting, Royce has decided to step down as convenor of the cruising group. In a one-horse race, I was handed the position, which I take on cheerfully. That meeting was attended by about 26 people to hear John O'Grady take us through the use of the sextant for noon sights. This good attendance, and the good participation in our recent cruise to Martha Cove, shows how well the group is functioning and we must acknowledge Royce's great efforts in getting the group up and running and continuing to thrive. I have had a number of comments since the meeting along these lines.
John O'Grady is leaving in Ghost Dog this weekend to cruise to Queensland and we wish him well on the voyage. We can feel confident he will not get lost. I have booked him in for late this year to speak again. I know that Graham Cantelo is joining him as crew for the first part of the trip, and if my memory was better, I could tell you who else from our group is involved in the future legs.
Our next event is the overnighter at Portarlington on the evening of the St Leonards race. The race has a non-spinnaker division, providing an opportunity to contest it as a two-handed crew and then go to Portarlington. Gary Marks has offered to be the point of contact for this, as Jenny and I will be off to (or perhaps just 'towards') Flinders Island today.
Tony Riedle has plans to go to Apollo Bay at Easter, so get in touch with him if you want to sail there too.
The last Tuesday this month falls on 26 April, which is part of the Easter public holidays. Should we meet that evening? Let me know your comments, and I will review them on our return, just before Easter.
Fair winds!
